Skills Development Sessions
Enriching students' learning experiences
At NYBEP, we enhance the standard curriculum by linking schools and colleges with employers, adding real-world applications to students’ learning experiences. Our dedicated team tailors activities to meet the unique needs of each institution and cohort, ensuring content is relevant to students aspirations, as well as local labour market demands.
Designed to inspire your learners and embed skill development, these sessions are all mapped against the Gatsby Benchmarks, the Skills Builder Framework, and CDI Framework to ensure your students are developing the skills required to ensure successful futures!
All activities are mapped against the Gatsby Benchmarks, CDI Framework, Skills Builder Framework, CEC Employer Standards and areas of Curriculum learning – please contact us about an activity to learn more.
Some of our skills development sessions and challenges are outlined below:
01
STEM & Enterprise Activities
NYBEP will deliver a STEM and/or Enterprise Challenge for students to take part in, which aims to develop students’ soft skills such as teamwork, problem solving, and communication. We ask employers to join the event by supporting and encouraging students’ ideas and being a judge to choose the winning idea!
02
Trading Game
The Trading Game gives students the ability to take part in a stock market simulation delivered by our NYBEP team. The activity focuses on improving students’ soft skills such as teamwork, risk management, and communication, as well as developing their understanding of monetary value. We invite employers to join the event by supporting and encouraging students with their decisions and financial awareness.
03
Chocolate Box
The Chocolate Box Challenge is an engaging and enjoyable activity where students collaborate in small teams to create their own business, developing, designing, and branding a brand-new chocolate product. Students will brainstorm ideas for a new brand of chocolates packaged in a freshly designed box, with themes ranging from seasonal motifs to broader concepts like sustainability, aimed at involving young people in discussions about achieving Net Zero emissions.
04
Green Energy
In the Green Energy activity, students collaborate in small teams to craft innovative ideas, products, services, or business proposals centred around environmental concerns. This engaging experience empowers students to create their own ventures, from conceptualisation to production, tailored to their local area or school. With a firm emphasis on environmental sustainability and lasting effects, this initiative tackles present-day environmental issues and seeks solutions for a more eco-friendly future. Students will develop prototypes of products or services aimed at enhancing the local community and fostering environmental conservation efforts.
05
Build and Boost
A new Enterprise Challenge focusing on building your business and boosting your skills. This exciting and interactive activity is geared towards fostering resilience and creativity among students, all while encouraging calculated risk-taking and honing time management abilities. Employers will actively participate by evaluating students’ tasks for their business viability and assigning them a monetary value. Meanwhile, students have the opportunity to enhance their skills by choosing ‘risk cards’ and acquiring ‘boost cards’ during the process of demonstrating their skill development.
The challenge poses an intriguing dilemma: will you focus on building your business steadily, or will you take bold risks to accelerate your progress? The choice is yours!
06
Fashion Fusion
Fashion Fusion is an exciting and vibrant activity that provides students with the opportunity to collaborate in small teams and establish their own fashion businesses. They will design and produce clothing and accessories that reflect their creative vision and preferences. Additionally, students will assume various roles within their company, including marketing, advertising, and sales, to promote their new products effectively. The culmination of the challenge will be a lively and entertaining fashion show, showcasing the students’ creations. This event can take place in a large hall or similar venue, or students can work in individual classrooms before coming together as a full year group for the final presentation.
07
Put Your Town on the Map
Put Your Town on the Map is an engaging and enjoyable experience that enables students to collaborate in small teams to establish their own businesses. They will brainstorm, design, and name a brand-new product, service, or activity with a focus on showcasing their local area. Students will work together to devise an innovative idea aimed at attracting both tourists and locals, ultimately putting their town on the map!
08
Industry Challenges
Created in collaboration with industry partners, these challenges aim to empower young people to cultivate and express skills recognised by employers as essential and pivotal within their chosen field. These challenges may revolve around qualities like resilience, communication, creativity, or problem-solving, and are aligned with both the Skills Builder Framework and the specific needs of employers.
