These placements are carefully designed to meet the individual needs of students, offering them a practical insight into the professional world. Our programme not only enhances their understanding of different industries but also helps solidify their career aspirations by experiencing real-world job roles firsthand.

Our work experience programmes offer students the chance to explore different careers by immersing them in the day-to-day activities of various workplaces. Our friendly and efficient staff provide support to secure opportunities for students to engage with employers in a safe, secure environment and gain valuable feedback on their experience.
As a not-for-profit, we maintain costs at a break-even level to prioritise the financial well-being of your school’s budget.
NYBEP can manage and support your traditional week block placements, as well as longer term placements for pupils who require additional support, and innovative models to provide experience of the workplace for students in younger cohorts.

Experience of the Workplace
We recognise that Work Experience is just one component of the broader ‘Experience of the Workplace’ benchmark. That’s why we provide a variety of opportunities to help your young people feel prepared and confident for the world of work, starting from Year 7 onwards. These opportunities include ‘Inspire and Explore’ visits to employers, highlighting the diverse careers available within an organisation and challenge preconceived notions, project-based work provided by employers for completion in school, involving real life challenges from industry with ongoing live briefs that students can make a tangible impact upon! Through ongoing feedback from employers, we ensure that young people continue to develop and articulate relevant employability skills.

Inspire and Explore
During these visits, whether with entire cohorts or smaller groups, students engage with a diverse array of current employees at local businesses. The primary goal is to demystify the world of work and challenge any preconceived notions about roles across different sectors. Students will embark on guided tours of various departments, grasp the aims and objectives of the businesses, and gain valuable insights into the local economy by delving into the local labour market. Additionally, these sessions will spotlight various pathways into the sector, such as apprenticeship options. Whenever possible, students will also have the chance to meet current apprentices, inspiring their choices for Post-16 education and beyond.

Experience of the Workplace Project ‘Skills Finder’
These innovative programmes engage your students with real-life briefs provided by local employers, challenging them to research, explore, and develop creative solutions. Employers initiate the projects by visiting the school, presenting an overview of the challenge, and detailing the project brief. Students are then expected to collaborate in small groups during school hours, honing their research, creativity, teamwork, and presentation skills to deliver their ideas to the employers for feedback and evaluation. Notably, some past students’ ideas have been implemented in live briefs with various employers, including Indigo Greens in York and the NHS. This project is suitable for students from Year 7 to Year 10, and can be adapted to fit your school’s schedule, ranging from a few days to an entire term, and can also incorporate an Inspire and Explore visit to the employers workplace.
This week was more worthwhile than any full week of work experience to me, I really enjoyed it!

Work Experience
This typically comprises a week-long placement, allowing students to gain practical exposure to real-world work environments. Such experiences not only prepare students for the world of work but also foster their confidence, resilience, and communication abilities. Before placements commence, comprehensive health and safety assessments are conducted to ensure student wellbeing, alleviating concerns for all involved and reducing the workload for school staff. Additionally, extended or longer-term placements are available, and for schools or students requiring additional support, a brokerage service is offered.

- Duration: Placements can vary in length according to the needs of the student and the availability of our partner organisations
- Year Group: Work Experience blocks are specifically aimed at students from Year 10 to Year 13, preparing them for the transition from education to employment. Experiences of the Workplace are suitable from Year 7 upwards!
- Quality Assurance: Each placement is rigorously assessed to ensure it meets high standards of quality and relevance to the students’ educational and career goals
