Speed Networking at George Pindar

ENGIE are currently working as contractors to Beyond Housing on two New Build apartment projects in Scarborough. In total 53 apartments will be built over the two projects, consisting of one and two bed apartments.

As part of ongoing works, ENGIE have been taking part in local community initiatives, providing employment and training opportunities for local people. NYBEP helped organise a speed networking event for the staff of George Pindar school. Usually these events are arranged for the students, however on this occasion it was the staff that came for information on pathways, progression and skills that would benefit the students in life following school, so they could relay this information to the students and feel more comfortable with their knowledge of what’s required. Staff from ENGIE were invited to support this event and help educate the teachers on key skills and pathways and expand their knowledge on apprenticeships, as well as other learning and training available.

Client:  Beyond Housing

Location: Sirius Minerals hosting George Pindar

Date:  Tuesday 1st October 2019

Outcomes

The days event took place at Sirius Mineral’s Office in Scarborough. The event was designed to support the staff at George Pindar School, to help achieve the Gatsby 4 Benchmark, links with curriculum. This event was designed to help the staff link with businesses around them and gain a better understanding of the careers within the organisations present and a better understanding of pathways and routes available.

Small and large companies were in attendance, all of different sectors. Including Yorkshire Bank, Health and Beauty, local Skills Village and ENGIE, amongst others. The day started with an informal chat on the Gatsby Benchmarks and the help that is available, followed by a formal 5-10 minute rotation around the room to interact with each sector. The staff asked questions on careers available, questions about the business, our personal backgrounds and routes into our roles.

ENGIE were present on the day with literature and guidance on routes and pathways into the construction industry. Support was given on skills and attribute’s vital to the work place as well as guidance and tips on helping the students with producing a CV, as this is often what gets the foot through the door, following school life.

Key Features

  • To engage and inspire.
  • To support and offer guidance.
  • To promote the construction industry.
  • To help promote Gatsby Benchmarks.

“This event was a first of its kind that has been delivered and that ENGIE have attended. It was hugely beneficial for the staff, it was also extremely insightful to know that there were many factors the staff were not away of in terms of progression routes available such as apprenticeships.”
