After almost 10 years, Sue Gradwell is stepping down as Chief Executive of NYBEP and handing over to Laura Mason who is currently Resources Manager within the company.
Laura, as an experienced HR professional, together with her knowledge of the company, brings a critical employer perspective in terms of understanding the importance of finding, developing and unlocking talent.
‘I am excited about leading NYBEP through its next phase of development. Despite unprecedented political and technological change, one constant is the need for young people to understand the vast array of opportunities open to them and prepare to take their place in the workforce of the future. For 25 years it has been our mission to bring schools and businesses together to achieve this goal and we will continue to do this across Yorkshire and the Tees Valley.’
Lack of investment in careers provision has been a frequently cited criticism of both schools and employers. It is clear however, that through organisations such as the Careers and Enterprise Company and Local Enterprise Partnerships this is now beginning to be addressed. NYBEP has worked hard with these and other partners to ensure that investment is attracted to support local schools and businesses and as a result of their success in attracting such funding will be rolling out their Successful Futures programme bringing more young people into contact with employers across the region.
Sue will be remaining on the NYBEP Board as a non-executive director ensuring that the company still has access to her wealth of experience in the career development of young people gained over the past 35 years. The company is always keen to attract new stakeholders onto their Board to better reflect their work and the geography they cover.
